We are into the fourth month of the year, and with summer officially over, here at diamonds.co.nz we have used this time to consider the diamond engagement ring trends for 2016. Here’s what we see as being the major players in the engagement ring market for the rest of the year…
Unique
With a rise in women wanting to add personality to their engagement ring, unique designs are on the rise in 2016. Those opting for unique designs tend to go big and bold and some of our customers opt out of the wedding band because the statement of their engagement ring is enough without crowding its unique appeal.

Coloured Diamonds
The ultimate engagement ring statement is a coloured centre diamond or coloured accent diamonds. They are rarer than white diamonds making them generally pricier and some coloured diamonds are even seen as investments. At diamonds.co.nz we hold a select range of coloured diamonds for our customers to design a bespoke piece of jewellery with. From subtle pinks to vivid yellows and even blues, green and oranges, there is a big move towards coloured diamond engagement rings in 2016.

Yellow Gold
Yellow gold is making a serious comeback. The warm, buttery tones are being seen in more modern settings and different diamond and gemstone combinations. The yellow gold gives brides that sense of uniqueness without straying too far from the traditional engagement ring look.

Timeless Styles
Emerald cuts offer that timeless, elegant look many women are after, so it is inevitable that there is going to be continuing popularity towards this shape in 2016. Engagement rings are on your finger forever so it is important to consider a style that is timeless.
The ‘Adeline Setting’ is effortlessly timeless in this three stone emerald cut design.
Vintage and Art Deco
We are seeing more and more influences from the 1920’s and 1930’s as well as the 1800’s in diamond engagement rings designs this year. Rose gold is also on the rise, especially in these ‘old-world’ glamour type settings.
